Smart Meters
Smart utility meters are digital devices that automatically transmit data about your home/enterprise energy usage to the utility company or management authorities.
The mters employ a variety of transmission technologies for data communication. Cellular networks(3G/4G/NB-IoT) are widely used for their reliability and extensive coverage. Power Line Communication (PLC) is prevalent in electric meters, utilizing electrical wiring for data transmission. Radio Frequency (RF) and Wireless Mesh Networks enable meters to either directly communicate with utilities or relay data through a network of meters. Wi-Fi and internet networks are also utilized, particularly where broadband connections are readily available. Zigbee and other Home Area Network technologies are often employed for in-home monitoring, connecting smart meters to home devices for real-time usage tracking. In addition to these, LoRa technology is increasingly being used in smart meters.
